He knew, even as he asked, that the question would hurt. But that's what all of this is about, right? They spent too long hurting each other, too long not just ripping off bandaids, too long dying slow deaths and pretending they were alive. Owain is willing to hurt Poe, a little, if it'll be good for the both of them. He never used to be like that.

He says nothing, to Poe's answer. Acknowledges it with a flutter of his eyes and a soft, gentle kiss to the bite he left on his shoulder, silently telling him with actions, rather than words, that he's okay, and that Owain's here, and that he loves him, and that they'll get through this.

"What do we do after? Can we see each other again, like-- tonight? Or..."

He groans as he uses his free arm to prop himself up. He is - not as young as he used to be. Damn. He was going to feel this for a couple of days.

"I don't know." Another honest answer, but he's obviously thinking about it, weighing.

"It could be just - minutes - or-- I don't know, Owain. I-- I'll owe him an explanation, if he wants it."

Probably shouldn't have left Poe so incredibly well fucked, given what he has to do after this. Owain would be smugly popping his collar if he wasn't equal parts guilty and naked.

"No... yeah. I know. An explanation."

There's no part of him that worries Poe might choose Finn over him, again. Not after those days under the shade of the apple trees, where he could feel them slowly getting closer, finding each other again. There's a part of him that worries this might-- break Poe, though, that he'll only ever be able to look at Owain with guilt after this and their relationship might wither and die before it has a chance to start.

He thinks of another worst case scenario - of Poe being ported out, now, right now, when they have so much to do. The kiss he'd pressed to Poe's shoulder rises to Poe's lips and he takes them, needier than before, finding reassurance and letting his heart steady. He pulls back.

"What... are you going to tell him? I think - I know what I'm going to tell... mine." He hesitates. "I think - he's probably always known. That it was you. For me. Because I've had to assure him before that it-- wasn't. You. So... that'll be fun."

Poe sighed, rubbing at his face with a hand. "Yeah. A... lot of fun. I think that's probably what I'm in for, too."

"I don't know, Owain. But I think it... I'm pretty sure this conversation was coming anyway. Even if we hadn't--"

He let out a long sigh. "I should have figured this out months ago."

It would have been better, for both of them - for all four of them - if Poe had realized things sooner. Owain considers fighting him, but - it's true, that even now, there's a part of him that might not ever recover from having to wait for so long.

"I don't think... my conversation would have ever happened. It was either - wait for you, be alone, or try and find warmth in the cold." He hesitates. "I chose the first option, pretending to choose the third."

But he leans his head on Poe's shoulder, and then decides that's not enough contact. He hooks one leg around one of Poe's, shutting his eyes.

"You gonna be okay?" And, after a moment-- "Are we gonna be okay?"

He raised a hand, fingertips idly brushing at Owain's throat as the man lay on his shoulder. He doesn't answer right away. He's thinking too hard, and, well, that isn't a fast process, sometimes.

But he let out another long, quiet sigh, and turned his head just enough to press a dry kiss to Owain's forehead.

"... Yeah." It wasn't a flippant answer, and indeed, for an affirmative it sounded a little heavy. "... I think we'll be okay."

He paused again, eyes closing as he pressed his face into Owain's hair and breathed him in. The smell was so warm and familiar that it made the back of his throat tighten. The silence stretched, a few more seconds, until he murmured - quietly, and yet still clearly -

"I love you, Owain."

He doesn't panic, during the silence. He's sad, maybe, if nothing else. Of all the ways for the two of them to finally find each other, having to walk through fire at the beginning of things was hardly ideal. He shuts his eyes when Poe kisses him, listening to his heartbeat through his skin. He would-- sleep, for many days, in this bed, if he were allowed.

Or so he thinks, until Poe tells him he loves him.

His eyes snap open and he scrambles up to his knees, filled with an energy he didn't know he could have, after what they just did. His heart is fucking jackhammering, his palms sweaty already. Poe's cum is still just hanging out on his chest and he doesn't even give a shit.

"You said it first," Owain says, sitting up on his knees. "Or-- wait. Did I say it first? I said it first. Fuck, I said it while I was fucking you!! That isn't cool!! That's not romantic!"

He scratches his fingers through his hair as fast as he can, face cycling between anger at himself, an overwhelming joy, so much fucking relief and enough love and affection that he might burst from it. He's crawling back to Poe on his hands and knees and just--

But he's overwhelmed with the urge to kiss him, and he does, clumsy and too firm like it's the first time he's ever done this. He crushes his lips against Poe's and parts them too early, desperate to feel their tongues melt into each other, and Owain straddles Poe's hips when he cups his jaw and tilts his chin upwards. The kiss evens out, with time, becoming softer but still needy, and when he finally, finally breaks for air, there's a shine to his lips and a flush on his cheeks and too much light in his eyes.

"I--"

He swallows.

"That's cool, I guess."

Poe was about the laugh and reassure him - but he didn't have time. Suddenly Owain was crawling onto him again, and Poe let out a low moan in the back of his throat as his hands settled on Owain's hips and he returned the kiss needily.

When Owain finally does pull back, playing it cool, Poe finally does laugh, pressing forward to steal another quick kiss.

"That wasn't the first time you said it," he admits, in a low voice against Owain's lips. "... Or even really the first time I have. We've basically been saying it for an entire year. I just didn't notice."

"Oh. Well. Yeah. But."

He rests on Poe's hips and grins, a little, leaning away from Poe's kiss like he wants to be chased. ... And then realizing he has zero willpower, when it comes to Poe, and dips forward to take his lips with his own. He doesn't think he has the words to describe just how fucking much he loves Poe, just how much he affects him, how much he's always affected him, so he grabs Poe's hand and places it over his heart, letting him feel the way it's beating like a drum under Owain's ribs, fast enough that he can barely contain himself.

But he's also Owain, so he can't not say something.

"I love you. I'm in love with you," he says, "and it's just-- the core of me. We'll get through this - and be together."

He might have been chased, but it was too late - Owain was taking the kisses for himself.

It's far to easy to feel the pulse of Owain's heart, though the base of Poe's palm brushes over some now pretty cold and gross cum, and he makes a little bit of a face - amused and fond.

"... Yeah." He leaned in to take another kiss, far softer this time, and lingering. "... Though I may need a shower."

Ah. Right. The cold and gross cum. Ah well. Owain kisses Poe again and slides off his hips, back to the sheets as he looks up at the ceiling. He spent a long, long time last year staring up at this ceiling and hoping for something to change. It's strange, doing so again, now that everything is different.

"I'll... ah."

He scratches at his cheek, lips tugging into a smile, despite all of this. He tries not to look at Poe, but he does, out of the corner of his eyes, before swallowing and laughing nervously.

"I'll-- shower with you, then," he says, a little lilting, trying not to make it too obvious that they're totally gonna bone.

Poe's smile spreads, and it's very knowing.

Yeah.

Yeah, they're going to bone.

But he can't really find himself at issue, with that. He leans down, pressing a kiss to Owain's lips before (with a slightly pained grunt) he slides himself off the bed. Yeah. This is - maybe he should hit up Archie to heal him, a bit, before going straight home. But that was a thought for later. For now, he just padded toward the shower, completely naked.

Owain stays in bed for a second just to watch Poe go - THAT ASS - but he slides off the sheets and runs after him the second he turns the corner into the bathroom.

It's a pretty fucking fancy joint, like the rest of the hotel room - the shower is huge, certainly big enough for two people to move around in comfortably, with polished glass and black tiles lined with a thin strip of gold at the highest peak of the wall. He slips in after Poe and turns on the water, adjusting the temperature until it's perfect, and--

And there's an opportunity to be sexy here, to let water run down his broad shoulders and showcase every curve of the body he's spent a lifetime working on, but he doesn't think to take it. He dips right under the showerhead until his hair is completely drenched, and then he steps out from the spray and shakes his head like a dog, splattering droplets against the glass and the tiles and just kinda grinning at Poe looking somewhat dandelion-ish when he's done.

"Hi."

Idiot.

The grin that splits Poe's lips is so open and honest that it almost hurts, and he laughs, raising his hands to push his fingers through Owain's hair and rub it roughly.

"Hi," he replies, with a smirk and fond, crinkled eyes, before pulling Owain down into a firm kiss.
