okay so my mom raised me and my sisters as a single parent, which wasn't all that easy & to make things worse I'm a mutant (same w/ my twin) which was and still is kinda looked at as weird in society. but we stayed together, flew under the radar & so on.

but growing up the only mutants we ever saw on tv were the infamous ones, like mystique who stopped magneto from shooting the president and who became a hero to mutantkind for being willing to put herself in the line of fire. magneto kind of was previously jailed for murdering the last president and almost ended the world with a really old crabby pants mutant aptly dubbed Apocalypse.

so I grew up seeing this guy named magneto on tv, being really shitty and doing a lot of shitty things and it turns out that guy is my father. I met him when I was a teenager but didn't know it and only just getting here three months ago did I get to talk to Erik, who already knew this from my other universe nephew spilling the beans (like wtf billy thanks) and he's being really nice and trying to make it work and so am I but like

he wasn't there a long ass time & he's done a lot of shitty ass things and it's complicated. but he's my father and I want to get to know him all the same, get to know why he did those things and hear his side of the story. part of me hopes he's got good excuses and that I can believe in him a little more than I'm already prepared to. because I'm by default prepared for him to spiral off into something shitty again

My mom's last warning to me was that nothing ends well with him.

Hey, Thanks for telling me all this. I know we haven't known each other for a long time and I know I can be kind of overwhelming with how quick I am to overshare about certain things about myself, which I guess kind of causes pressure on people sometimes to talk to me about themselves before they're ready? But it sounds like this is a pretty big thing for you and it means a lot to me that you trusted me with it. But anyway, Billy sounds like a prick! Wait, fuck, hold on, let me try again. I think you're going into this with a really healthy attitude. People are often really cut and dry about this kind of thing one way or another - "he's your dad, you have to reconnect with him!" or "it doesn't matter if he's your dad, he's a bad guy, don't go near him!". Hot button reactions based on someone's personal stance regarding morality and family and self-preservation. But. I think if you're aware of the kind of man he is objectively as well as aware of the kind of man your mother said that he is from her own presumably biased point of view, trying to reach out to him and letting your relationship grow in whatever direction it can grow in naturally is just, like. Mature? It shows you're not a hateful or resentful person. A good guy who is willing to understand and empathize with a person rather than condemn them, even when a lesser person might not be able to put aside their personal feelings to do so. That's really admirable.

& Thanks. It's not even that I care about being admirable it's just... I'm tired of hearing and seeing things and taking that as the way of the world. I wanna learn more about it myself & if that means talking to my dad on my own terms, that's cool. He hasn't really asked me for anything, so he seems... receptive. from what I can tell

I think when a person is wise - wise beyond their years, especially, as you're acting right now - finding that person admirable is kind of inevitable. I've always thought you were cool and funny but I didn't realize you had such a good head on your shoulders as well. It's kind of amazing. I've got a lot of respect for you for this, man. I hope I'll be able to handle my own eternally-crippling daddy issues so well one day, hahaahahaha hah ah ahahaha hahahahaha Receptive is good. All he needs to be is receptive for your relationship to improve. I know it's none of my business, but if there's anything I can do to help from whatever distance you need me to be at, I'm super here for that.
