Oh, shit. I would regret that. [ he sounds very serious and grave. that would indeed be terrible. ]

But-- haha, nope! It was the Woods of the Forlorn one. [ he puffs out his chest, all proud. ] Even though I'm a prince, I'm actually also the servant to this one dude back home? And he used to kind of hate me, so he would make up quests that would send me far away and maaaaybe get me killed. One of them was like, "go exterminate the Spirits of the Woods of the Forlorn!", and when I went to the edge of the country like he commanded, it was just, like, an empty forest. So I spent the day running around pretending to fight invisible monsters and I had a really fun albeit super pointless time. My crossdressing skills are impeccable.

Okay, that I have got to see.

[He waved over the waitress, ordered one of everything and a drink, waited until Odin ordered his, and then leaned back.]

Alright, let's see. I -- [There was a slight frown as he tried to grab hold of some memories but they wouldn't form. It was if they just slipped through his open fingers. He shook the feeling off.]

Alright, I was once grounded for running into a magic tree; I've been to 50 different planets; and I was forced to leave the Resistance fleet because--

[A look of confusion crossed his face.]

Uh- wait, I- no that makes no sense, why would I have left--

[ Odin laughs, at first, completely dedicated to this idea all of a sudden. Poe's not gonna know what hit him.

He realizes something's wrong before Poe does, though, the smile slipping from his face the second his date starts to look at a loss. He rests his arms on the table and stares at Poe with a kind of intense, nervous seriousness, feeling guilty for making... whatever this is happen, but ready to help in whatever way he can. ]

M-Memory stuff? Don't, um - don't panic. People are losing their memories a lot, right now, but they're-- they're coming back, I think. Are you okay?

[He looks more confused than upset, his brows furrowed as if he could recall it just by thinking about it, but it's like trying to catch a cloud with his hand. Grasping at nothing, and ending up cold and wet.]

... Yeah. Sorry. I'm fine. Just having a hard time -- [He shook his head. It didn't help, and then he frowned, looked blank for a second, and looked again at Odin.]

Sorry. What were we talking about?

I-I tried to play a dumb game with you so we could get to know each other better, but I shortsightedly failed to realize why that particular game might have been a bad idea given the circumstances? Sorry.

[ he looks guilty, but only a little. Mostly, he just looks concerned, looking deep into Poe's eyes like he's searching for... damage, or something. He seems okay? Odin's still worried, though. ]

Wanna talk about-- whatever that was? The stuff in your head. Maybe piecing it together out loud will help.

Whatever what wa-- oh, right. Yeah. Who even knows. If I think too hard, I can't even tell myself apart from everyone else at the moment, so don't worry about it.

I didn't think I'd lost any memories, but - [He frowns.] I guess I wouldn't, right? Maybe I'm starting to get them back, which is why I feel like I can almost remember things.

[It should bother him more than it does, but - hey? he's not dying horribly? and neither is Odin? So at least his head isn't being fucked with as badly as it has been.]

I'm alright. [He offered a rueful smile and then leaned over the table to ruffle Odin's hair.] Don't worry so much.

Um - maybe. I think that makes sense. [ Odin lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding. ] Uh, if being out is too much right now, we could go? We can just drop you off at home and relax, or something. You could, like, watch TV and not... think.

[ Or something? He's definitely more concerned about this than Poe is, and the only reason he isn't freaking out and rushing him to the Memory Brain Hospital or whatever is because Poe seems okay and he doesn't want to be overbearing. still. he's. worried.

still, he's chuckling and a little red when poe messes up his hair. he's not so worried that poe can't make him grin like a stupid dumb idiot. ]

Okay. I won't-- worry so much. But. If it gets too much, or if I have reason to be worried, just tell me, okay? I don't like when you aren't completely and totally ultra-happy mega-psyched supreme.

I'm good where I am. [The smile he offers is honest and it crinkles at the edges of his eyes.] You're pretty much the best entertainment I could possibly find anyway.

I'd let you know. To be honest, none of this stuff compares to that damn house. I'd take this over that house any day of the week. I'm sure this stuff will wear off, or just disappear like the house did.

Well, that's-- [ odin's heart skips a beat, but he's swelling with his typical over the top pride and doesn't really notice. ] That's-- obvious. Obviously! I'm funny and engaging and have little to no regard for my safety or another person's personal space. That's kind of my deal? I've said it time and time again, but I'd like to do so just once more: I'm so cool and funny and great.

[ but - his voice softens pretty quickly, and he slumps back down against the table. there's something he's been meaning to bring up with poe, and now seems like as good a time as any. ]

... Yeah. I've actually been trying to look into, um, your daughter. I-- [ he hesitates. ] I know someone who might... be able to solve everything about her. I don't know if you... want that. But. Yeah.

Oh.

[A rapid flurry of conflicting emotions rush through him, even though his expression is fairly muted. He can't label half of them. Somewhere between excitement and dread and longing and terror and resentment and grief--]

I- yeah. ... Yeah, I think I... Should. Even if the truth really isn't one I want to hear.

Who are they?

Um, Enrico Pucci. He's a friend of mine? A priest. He has a few powers based on... memories. He can, um - extract your memories, from the period in your life where she would have been alive, and he can examine them and see if she actually existed or if she was imprinted on top of the... real memories, that you already had.

[ he fidgets. he doesn't like seeing Poe so... struck down, but odin thinks he's doing the right thing, maybe. so he pushes through it. ]

You would lose your memories, temporarily, while he examined them. And he said - if you didn't feel comfortable with him examining them, someone that you trust could do it, instead, if he guided them through how to do it. Presumably, um, if she's real, he'd be able to find out why you forgot her, too? So... if you're ever interested, I can set up a meeting. I don't think doing it right now would be good, because your head's already kind of-- messy? But. At some point. If you want. Maybe.

Yeah. [The smiles are gone, Poe just looks very intent, instead, almost as if he's ready to go on a mission.

At least on a mission, the worst thing that could happen was death.]

Yeah, let's do it. Thanks, Odin. I mean it. For not thinking that I'm just - yeah.

[ odin thinks that sentence could have ended in a lot of ways - "for not thinking that i'm just delusional", or overreacting, or kidding myself, or who knows what else - and odin shakes his head as fast as he can to completely dismiss every single one of those notions. ]

I! Wouldn't! Think! Anything bad about you! Ever! Ever. I know you pretty well!! As, like, a human man person, if maybe not like your history and stuff. And I know you're-- I know you're suffering from this. I'm not going to let you hurt when I can find a way to help you. So.

[ he nods. fiercely. ]

Sorry. I brought the mood down. [ he sighs. ] I'm hungry.

[Poe just smiles at him - warmly, if weary.]

Trust me, I'm not perfect, but I appreciate the sentiment. You're a good man, Odin.

[He lets out a long breath through his nose then forces a warmer smile back to his lips, trying not to think about Shara.]

Right. Mission to improve Odin's mood is go. The food might be another min--

[No, it wasn't. It was actually starting to arrive right then.]

Well, your hair is, at least.

[ Odin feels slightly relieved over Poe not being, like, entirely broken by this conversation like he overdramatically feared he might have been, but. There is a small, not entirely insignificant part that sort of wishes he was smart enough to think of some perfect, excellent words to reassure Poe that he can talk to him about serious stuff whenever he wants. He doesn't have it in him, though... so he just sort of smiles back and lets the conversation lie, for now.

The food is good and Odin eats way too much, only stopping short of completely stuffing himself because he doesn't wanna bloat the fuck up for the inevitable trip to bonertown that he's already bought tickets for. Odin spends the whole meal going full fuckin' force on his clown tactics, doing everything he can to make Poe smile a little more genuinely. Hopefully it works.

When they're done and heading out of the restaurant, Odin puts his hands in his pockets and stares up at the sunset. ]

What d'you wanna do next? We could go for those drinks, if you want. Or, like. [ he stares, blatantly, at Poe's ass, then coughs and looks away when he realizes he needs to chill the fuck out on doing things like that. ] Or, like, whatever else.

[It doesn't take long for Poe's mood to improve and soon he's laughing so hard his sides hurt, failing at using chopsticks to eat and resorts to using his fingers. So by the time they finish dinner he is grinning again quiet genuinely, stretching out in the fading sun.]

I think a combination of drinks and whatever else sounds like a good direction. [Was that a knowing twinkle in his eye? Yeah, it was......]

Let's just pick something up and then go somewhere a bit more private. Actually-- [He pauses to roll open the carpet.]

Forget the drinks - lets go for a flight and do "whatever else". [He didn't really need to be any fuller than he was - liquid or solid - if Odin kept looking at his ass like that.]

[ Odin is roughly three seconds away from yelling "boooooo" when Poe actually sounds like he's gonna go for the drinks, so he's pretty psyched when he changes his mind. He lights up with all the shameless enthusiasm in the world. ]

Y-- yeah! Yeah, okay. I mean - whatever makes you happy? It's a date, so. Gotta. Make it. Happy. For you. [ he pauses. ] You know, we've talked about going out for drinks, like, three times now, and the closest we came to it was sipping beers in my room? We've gotta level the fuck up and actually go out and do it, one of these days. Uh, not this day, but one of them.

[ He jumps on the carpet, though, tucking his knees up to his chest and patting the spot in front of him as fast as he can. ]

C'mon. C'mon. C'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon. [ Wait, a thought occurs to him. ] Can I fly these things or is it something only you can do? 'Cause I wanna try flying you around somewhere one day.

What can I say, I don't mind hogging you to myself. [He grins when he says it, completely oblivious to how that might come out.

He pauses before he sits down on the carpet.]

I don't think so. It's just a carpet - I bought it at a Finnish Furniture Store. It's me that does the flying, technically. If it was an X-Wing, I would definitely teach you how to fly. [He finally sat down in front of Odin.]

Unless you can magic it yourself to fly, I don't know how that works.

[ It's probably more telling that Odin doesn't say anything, after Poe's oblivious slip up. He just goes kind of slack-jawed and quiet, for a second, his mouth dropping open a bit as he looks up at Poe, surprisingly innocent for one who's gonna do the things he's about to do. He ends up mumbling something too quiet to hear and covers his mouth with his hand, looking off to the side until he's distracted himself enough to keep talking. ]

I... uh...

I can mess with the wind, but that's not really the same. You'd have to hold onto me really tight and we wouldn't have anything to like, pilot - it'd be a lot rougher than how you do it. [ ... his mind goes somewhere dirty, and he finds his confidence again. ]

Did I tell you I can make you dream anything you want and make it feel really, really real? I could do that for you tonight, when we're, um - done. I could make it feel like you're back home, in an X-Wing, and the only way you would be able to know it was a dream was if you asked me to let you be aware of it.

[Luckily Poe was already thinking about the mechanics of flying and missed most of that Look. Or maybe he noticed and deliberately decided not to notice. It was a toss up.]

Maybe that's something we should try when we are somewhere were falling won't require a hospital run.

[The carpet starts to lift into the sky, as Poe turns his head to look at Odin.]

What - seriously? How? Wouldn't you need to know what an X-Wing looked like?

We could go to the beach at some point? Maybe? That way you'd just fall into the water and-- wait, you know how to swim, right? Actually, even if you don't, that's fine. Things are more fun when messing up means you might get super duper hospitalized.

[ He laughs, shuffles closer to Poe so he can hear him over the wind that's about to pick up. His stomach definitely totally 100% only does that little flip 'cause it still feels weird jolting away from the ground. ]

Naw, I don't. As long as I have a vague understanding of what they are so I can write, like, "Poe flies around in his X-Wing for 20 minutes" or whatever, your mind'll be drawing off of your own experiences to fill in the blanks. It's a pretty cool power? Nobody's actually accepted my offer of using it on them 'cause they're scared of having someone mess with their heads, but I use it on myself whenever I'm not having a bad insomnia night so I can have have hyper realistic dreams about going on adventures or having sexy naked harems or whatever. It's pretty good stuff.

I'll keep it a secret just so that you won't know until it happens.

[He can swim.]

Huh.

That's actually a pretty neat power. [It would be even more neat to him if he currently remembered the war, and how often he has nightmares because of it. But, instead, he thinks of something else. And he wonders for a couple seconds if Odin could give him a dream about teaching Shara to fly.

And then he decides that it would kill him to see it, so he doesn't say it.]

Does it have any weird side effects?

Oh man, terrifying. I'm in.

[ Maybe when Poe's memories of the war come back, Odin will be able to help him sleep - he played it off as a joke, mostly, but Odin spends nearly every night laying in bed, staring up at the ceiling, reliving his kills and the horrors he's seen back home, his guts twisting in on themselves. His power's the only thing that's been able to keep the nightmares away.

Maybe when Poe trusts Odin a little more, they'll be able to explore this weight Shara's caused, too. If he'll ever be okay with it. ]

No. I can't, like, force you to go to sleep, or anything, either, just - mess with your dreams. And you'll wake up like normal, whenever you'd normally wake up? You'll just go to sleep and you'll suddenly be in the middle of something super real.

Then let's do it. [He shoots Odin a grin that's only half forced, using a hand to reach back and pat his knee as they fly.]

If everyone else is going to be a coward about it, you're welcome to try it on me.

[He was heading to Odin's place, and while it was at a slower pace than their flight there, it was already coming up on the horizon.]

[ Odin goes quiet for the rest of the flight, resting on Poe's back for a second and just kinda absorbing his warmth until he loses his nerve and shuffles back. He swings his legs over the edge of the carpet, laying on his back and staring up at the sky. He'd be cool just staying like this, honestly. Quiet and happy with Poe.

Gettin' too real. ]

We're going back to my house? I totally thought we were gonna bang in the sky again. [ he rolls onto his stomach to peer down at his place. ] You were totally into it, last time. You were all like, "hell yeah, you're the best". It felt PRETTY GREAT, POE DAMERON.
